Information for Students and Parents of Rising 9th Graders


February 9- 8th graders go to HHS for a tour and an introduction to the academies. (11:30-2:05)
-      Students will learn about the IB Program, Broadcasting, Law Academy, Engineering Academy, Education Academy, Health Sciences Academy, Finance Academy, I. T. Academy, Fine Arts, and Family and Consumer Sciences. 

February 12- HHS Counselors come to Simmons
-      HHS Counselors will go over the 9th grade course selection sheets and the four year plans 
-      Students will turn in their course selection sheets to their teachers for recommendations. After the teacher completes the recommendations, the sheet will be returned to the student to take home to discuss with parents. 
-      If a Parent has a question about a recommendation, they should contact that particular teacher. 

February 18- HHS Curriculum Night
-      Please make plans to attend these informational sessions in order to help guide your student to make the appropriate course selections for their individual interests and abilities. Hoover High School offers a diverse curriculum, and we want students and parents to be fully aware of the academic opportunities available. Detailed session information will be sent home by mail soon.

March 1- Course Selection Sheets and Four Year Plans due to their team's Math teacher.


Mid April (date TBD)- Home Base teachers will send home course verification sheets for students and parents to review.
-      Requested changes should be emailed to Patty Phillips, pphillips@hoover.k12.al.us

April 29- Last day to make a course change free of charge.

May 2-27- Changes may be made for a charge of $20. No changes will be made after May 27th.
